Pigmentation Laser

CoolView pigmentation laser is a targeted treatment designed to address areas of unwanted pigmentation and uneven skin tone. Precise laser energy is used to target excess pigment within the skin while minimising impact on the surrounding tissue.

Treatment may be suitable for concerns such as sun spots, age spots, freckles and other areas of visible pigmentation. A thorough skin assessment is essential, as not all types of pigmentation are suitable for laser treatment.

At The Clinic by Nurse Georgie, each treatment begins with a comprehensive consultation and skin assessment to identify the type of pigmentation present and determine the most appropriate treatment approach.

Questions

Pigment Laser is a targeted treatment designed to address areas of unwanted pigmentation and uneven skin tone. At The Clinic by Nurse Georgie, we use the Excel V+ CoolView laser to precisely target pigment within the skin while minimising impact on the surrounding tissue.

Depending on your skin and the type of pigmentation present, treatment may be considered for sun spots and sun damage, age spots, freckles, lentigines, localised areas of pigmentation, uneven or mottled pigmentation and selected superficial pigmented lesions. Not all pigmentation should be treated with laser, which is why an accurate skin assessment is an important part of your consultation.

The laser delivers a specific wavelength of light that is absorbed by excess pigment within the skin. This creates controlled heating of the targeted pigment, allowing it to gradually break down and be cleared through the skin's natural processes.

It is common for treated pigmentation to initially become darker or more noticeable following treatment. The area may then develop a dry or coffee-ground-like appearance before gradually flaking away or fading as the skin renews.

Changes develop progressively as the treated pigment clears. Some improvement may be noticeable after the skin has completed its initial healing process, with results continuing to develop over the following weeks.

This varies depending on the type, depth and extent of pigmentation being treated. Some isolated areas may respond well to a single treatment, while other concerns may require a series of treatments or a combination treatment plan.

Laser can reduce the appearance of existing pigmentation, but it cannot prevent new pigmentation from developing. Sun exposure, hormones, genetics and the natural ageing process can all contribute to future pigment formation. Consistent SPF and appropriate home skincare are important for maintaining results.

No. Different types of pigmentation require different approaches, and some conditions may worsen with inappropriate laser treatment. Your pigmentation will be assessed before treatment to determine whether CoolView is appropriate or whether another treatment or skincare plan would be more suitable.

Melasma is a complex pigment condition influenced by factors including hormones, UV exposure and heat. Laser is not automatically appropriate for every case and can sometimes aggravate melasma. A comprehensive assessment is required before recommending a treatment plan.

You may feel a brief warm or snapping sensation during treatment. The Excel V+ incorporates cooling to help protect the skin and improve comfort throughout the procedure. Most clients find treatment very manageable.

Downtime varies depending on the area and intensity of treatment. Mild redness, warmth or swelling may occur. Pigmented areas commonly darken before gradually flaking or fading, so this should be considered when planning treatment around events.

No. Your skin type, type of pigmentation, medical history, medications and recent sun exposure are assessed before treatment. Any lesion that requires medical investigation will not be treated cosmetically and may require assessment by an appropriate medical practitioner.

Recent tanning and significant sun exposure can increase the risk of adverse effects and may mean your treatment needs to be postponed. Please disclose recent sun exposure, fake tan and upcoming holidays during your consultation.

You will receive personalised pre-treatment instructions. Consistent sun protection is particularly important, and you should let us know about any medications, supplements, recent procedures or changes to the area being treated.

Avoid picking, scratching or exfoliating areas of darkened pigment and allow them to naturally shed. Gentle skincare and daily broad-spectrum SPF are essential while the skin recovers. Individual aftercare instructions will be provided following your appointment.
